Riquewihr-The Adventure Continues Day 7

As the sun came up over the snow covered Alps, we packed our bags, loaded our car, and headed out onto the autobahn for another adventure.  Destination: Riquewihr, known as one of "the most beautiful villages in France".  It is set in the foothills of the Vosges Mountains and saw its early beginnings in the 800's. This town was protected by two walls.  The interior wall was built in the 1300's and the exterior wall was built in the 1500's.  The apartment we are staying in is inside the exterior wall, but the wall is part of the apartment.  So we are staying in, what is referred to as new construction. The town spread beyond these ramparts in the 19th century.  The town prospered over the centuries, especially during the 16th century, thanks to its vineyards and its wine trade, which is famous throughout worldwide.
We have rented an apartment here for one week.  A 2BR, 2bath, located on 3 floors, built in the 1500's.  A lot of exposed timbers, but it does have Wi-Fi.

We left Bavaria around 0930 and got into Riquewihr around 1600.  We drove into a really heavy snowstorm outside Stuttgart and the traffic was horrendous...  4 lanes deep, bumper to bumper, heavy snow, icy roads, 10 miles an hour.  Harry did yeoman's service driving us through the storm.  My job was to navigate.  I told Harry to drive straight ahead and he just followed my lead.

We arrived in Riquewihr at the height of the Sunday Christmas Market.. It went on until 1900.  We settled into our accommodations, had dinner, and retired for the evening.  Tomorrow we will meet Jean-Paul Krebs, our landlord at 1000 and take the road less traveled and discover the Alsace in a way that most touristS do not have the opportunity.
